Detectives treating death of man, 22, in Manchester as murder

Detectives are treating the fatal stabbing of a 22-year-old in Moss Side as murder, the Manchester Evening News understands.

The victim was knifed on Moss Lane East, near the junction with Princess Road at the border with Hulme, just before 8pm on Wednesday (October 25). His friend called emergency services to the scene following a 'disturbance' involving two other men.

The victim tragically died in hospital. The two men fled the scene in a car, with a hunt ongoing to track them down.

According to Greater Manchester Police's public portal, where members of the public can submit information about the incident, a murder probe is now underway. Yesterday (Thursday), police said no arrests had been made but that detectives were 'working hard' to find the men who fled the scene.

A knife was recovered near Staycott Street, just minutes away from Moss Lane East, less than 24 hours after the stabbing. Police have not yet confirmed whether this is believed to be linked.

Two women who said they knew the victim, who has not yet been named, said he was a ‘good’ and ‘happy’ young man. One said: “He was 100 per cent a nice boy.

"He had been to university and was living with his family. What has happened and why he had been killed I don’t know. I am so shocked.”

Another said: “I knew his family for a long time. I didn’t know him well but I know he enjoyed going to the masjid (mosque). Whenever I saw him he was a happy boy. It’s very sad.”
