Details of fast bowler Wes Agar’s 2024 Kent return confirmed; Australian overseas player available across all formats until the end of July

The details surrounding Australian overseas fast bowler Wes Agar’s Kent return in 2024 have been confirmed.

Agar, 26, will rejoin for Kent’s first 10 County Championship Division 1 matches and the group stage of the T20 Blast competition, subject to regulatory approval.

He will be available across all formats until the end of July.

The right-armer took 21 wickets in Kent’s 2023 red-ball campaign in six matches, including best figures of 5-63 against Northamptonshire in June. He also took seven wickets in five T20 Blast matches, as well as two catches.

“I’m so stoked to be coming back to Kent again in 2024,” said Agar, the younger brother of Australian Test spin bowler Ashton Agar.

“I absolutely loved being a part of the squad in 2023. Kent Cricket is such a special club and I’m really excited to be coming back for the new season.

“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again and getting started with the lads in April.”

Director of cricket Simon Cook said: “We’re delighted to have Wes with us again for a big part of our season in 2024.

“He was a big addition to our squad this past season, contributing across two formats, as well as becoming a big part of the dressing room.

“We hope to see more big performances from Wes in a Kent shirt.”

Kent head coach Matt Walker had initially revealed Agar was set to return to Kent next year in late September.

“When you sign an overseas player, you want the quality and you want the performances - but you also want the bloke. You couldn’t have a better bloke than Wes.
