Dessie Dolan brings time with Westmeath to an end

Dessie Dolan has stepped down as Westmeath senior football boss.

RTE Sport has confirmed that Dolan, an iconic player for the county, has departed the managerial role after two seasons at the helm.

It was expected that Dolan would continue as manager after leading the team into Division 2 of the Allianz League, and players had anticipated that he would remain on.

Instead, news emerged earlier today that he was stepping down.

The Allianz League campaign saw promotion from the third tier and the county found themselves in the All-Ireland round robin group with Armagh, Derry and Galway.

Despite losing those games Westmeath held their own with very solid displays.

Last year, they lost to Louth in the Leinster championship and played the All-Ireland series, losing to Galway by eight points, to Armagh by only a point and earning an 0-18 apiece draw with Tyrone.

Westmeath will now start the search for a new manager as the side faces into 2025 in Division 2.

Watch the All-Ireland Camogie Championship finals, Laois v Tipperary in junior at 1pm, Cork v Kilkenny in intermediate at 3pm and Cork v Galway in senior at 5.15pm. All games on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player. Follow a live blog on rte.ie/sport and the RTÉ News app and listen to commentary on RTÉ Radio 1
