Dermot O'Leary fights tears as he and Holly Willoughby pay on-air tribute following death of 19-year-old co-star

Dermot O'Leary and Holly Willoughby have paid an on-air tribute to one of This Morning's young stars following his tragic death. The pair were together at the helm of the ITV daytime programme on Monday (September 11), the day after This Morning confirmed the death of Matthew Lock.

Known as Matty, the teen's passion for vacuum cleaners saw him present segments on the programme with the likes of Holly over the years. According to the Liverpool Echo, the politician, campaigner and television presenter died suddenly with Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner among the first to have shared their shock and sadness at the news.

The 19-year-old often presented parts of the popular daytime programme with the show's hosts on the best gizmos and gadgets after testing them out for himself. His last appearance was in July when he joined Holly and co-host Craig Doyle to tell viewers the best fans for the summer months

Taking to Facebook and Instagram on Sunday (September 10), This Morning confirmed the news of Matty's tragic passing. Sharing a picture of the teen laughing away during an appearance on the popular programme, a message read: "Everyone at This Morning is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Matty Lock, aged just 19.

"He was a delightful young man, a joy to work with and his passion for vacuum cleaners and general mechanics was infectious. His family came to the studio and they were so proud that he’d turned a childhood hobby into a career." They rounded off the message: "We will miss him and send our condolences to his family."
