Dermot Gallagher salutes Rangers penalty call but casts doubt on Kayne Ramsay red against Celtic

Former top flight official Dermot Gallagher believes Ross County star Kayne Ramsay was unlucky to see red for his crunching tackle on Tom Rogic.

But he was full of praise for Bobby Madden's decision to award Rangers a spot kick in their Sunday clash with Dundee at Dens Park.

Gallagher admits Rogic's subsequent injury adds a caveat to Ramsay's red, however, he believes it wasn't an open and shut case to send him off against Celtic.

Referee Don Robertson issued a red card to the Southampton loanee after the Australia international was left in a crumpled heap and was subsequently replaced.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "I think the referee just felt it was the intensity of the tackle but you are right, he did get the ball, he did stay on his feet, I think he is a little bit unlucky.

"But, in fairness, the player (Rogic) who received the foul couldn't continue, so you could argue the intensity was too much."

And Gallagher tipped his hat to Madden for pointing to the spot after he adjudged Jordan McGhee to have pulled back the Alfredo Morelos in the box.

James Tavernier missed the resulting penalty but the former Premier League official is in no doubt a foul occurred inside the box and praised the man in the middle.

He added: "It was actually, because when you see it, I thought it was a foul the other way.

"But he grabbed a hold of his (Morelos') shirt, pulls him back, it's a very good spot by the referee."
