Derelict building in Levenshulme could soon be transformed

Plans to develop an unoccupied building on Stockport Road in Levenshulme have begun.

A pre-planning application public consultation has been started by Mancunian developers, Views, which is open this Friday, 18 February.

The plans hope to turn the currently unoccupied 764-786 Stockport Road into a ‘mixed use’ development with retail space and leisure facilities on the ground floor and 30 apartments on the three upper floors.

Previously, the unoccupied space was home to some shops, including a hardware shop, however they have long since closed down.

The development aims to be sustainable and will replace the existing buildings with commercial space as well as 10 one bedroom and 20 two bedroom apartments.

It is not yet known whether the development will include affordable housing as the the conditions of the building and its occupation are still being figured out.

However, once this is known, the plans for the development would have to be finalised and will be subject to an ‘affordable housing viability assessment.’

Designed by Manchester based Ollier Smurthwaite Architects, the current design is to have three buildings, lowering in height from four stories to two, in keeping with the surrounding buildings.
