Deontay Wilder's trainer makes 'dangerous' comment about Robert Helenius

Deontay Wilder ‘brings the best out of his opponents’, according to the American’s trainer Malik Scott.

The Bronze Bomber, 37, returns to the ring this weekend when he takes on former sparring partner Robert Helenius.

Wilder will enter the fight on a two-fight losing streak courtesy of consecutive back-to-back defeats to Tyson Fury.

And Scott, who was in Wilder's corner for his trilogy fight with Fury, has warned him not to underestimate Helenius who he called a "dangerous" underdog.

“Deontay has sparred Helenius,” he told BoxingScene.com. “I was there, and I saw how well Deontay did with him, but Helenius is not a good spar.

"He doesn’t spar very well. Anybody could have an okay day with him. He’s very technically sound and he knows how to protect himself, but he’s not a good spar.

“He’s a good fighter when the lights are on. When it’s time to throw a monkey wrench into the apple cart and to upset people, this is when he comes alive. And this makes him more dangerous in this fight because if anyone is going to train as hard as they ever trained and be more alert than they’ve ever been, [it’s] when they’re fighting Deontay Wilder. He brings the best out of his opponents."

Wilder, meanwhile, is well aware of the threat Helenius poses.

"I always want a good matchup,” he told Premier Boxing Champions via DAZN.

“You know what I mean? And Robert, he’s been on a winning streak and he’s here. You know what I mean? I’ve been hearing he’s supposed to be the mandatory for Usyk or however that is laid out or whatever.
