Delays and cancellations on Greater Manchester trains due to 'object caught in wires'

Some trains in Greater Manchester are delayed or cancelled this morning due to 'an object caught in overhead wires'.

The lines between Stockport and Stoke-on-Trent are currently blocked, according to National Rail. A number of routes from Manchester Piccadilly are affected.

These include Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly, CrossCountry between Paignton / Southampton Central / Bournemouth / Bristol Temple Meads / Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly and Northern between Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester Piccadilly.

Trains may be delayed, cancelled or diverted. Disruption is expected until at least 11.30am, with passengers being urged to check before they travel.
