"Definitely" - Journalist drops exit claim on Spurs 24 y/o "even further down the pecking order"

Tottenham Hotspur winger Steven Bergwijn will ‘definitely’ attract interest from potential suitors in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Bergwijn has fallen down the pecking order under the tutelage of current manager Antonio Conte and was reportedly close to sealing an exit from the club in January.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Dutch giants Ajax failed in their attempts to bring the 24-year-old back to his homeland in the winter as Spurs were demanding €25 million (£20.9m).

Romano stated that Conte’s preference was to retain Bergwijn’s services at the halfway stage of the campaign, but his lack of action since has opened the door to a possible future sale.

The Netherlands international started the capital club’s opening three Premier League games of the season when former boss Nuno Espirito Santo was at the helm.

However, since Conte replaced the Portuguese tactician in November, Bergwijn has featured from the off on just one occasion in the league, with his last top-flight start coming on 23 January.

Dejan Kulusevski has made a big impact since his January arrival, registering two goals and five assists in just 10 Premier League appearances, pushing Bergwijn further down the pecking order.

And the creative talent could be forced to seek pastures new when the market reopens for business as a result.

Bergwijn arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with an enviable reputation after racking up 72 goal contributions in 149 outings for PSV Eindhoven, claiming three Eredivisie titles along the way.
