Defending champions France end Morocco's World Cup run

World Cup holders France drew on their superior experience and clinical finishing to inflict a 2-0 defeat on tournament surprise packages Morocco, with goals from Theo Hernandez and substitute Kolo Muani setting up a Sunday showdown against Argentina.

France made the perfect start at Al Bayt Stadium, with Hernandez volleying home a deflected shot from Kylian Mbappe in the fifth minute.

Morocco went on to enjoy the majority of possession as they searched for an equaliser, but another deflected shot from Mbappe fell into the path of a countryman, with Kolo Muani finishing the tie from close range in the 79th minute.
