Defender Shad Ogie joins Woking after Gillingham exit and Jonny Williams heads to Swindon Town for a trial

Former Gillingham pair Shad Ogie and Jonny Williams are both looking to kick-start the next chapter of their careers after leaving Priestfield this summer.

Both players were deemed surplus to requirements by boss Gareth Ainsworth at the end of last season.

Ogie, 24, has joined National League side Woking on a two-year contract.

He spent three years at the Gills and made 84 league appearances following his move from Leyton Orient.

Speaking to his new club’s media team, the central defender said: “I’m delighted to be here. From my conversations with the club, it was clear there was a real ambition about what everyone is working towards, and I knew it was something I wanted to be part of.

“It’s an exciting challenge for me and I’m looking forward to getting started, meeting the lads and giving everything I can for the supporters. Hopefully we can have a really positive season together.”

Jonny Williams, 32, is meanwhile reported to be back at Swindon on trial.

The former Welsh international played 94 league games for the Gills before being released.

He spent the early part of pre-season attending the PFA training camp, scoring in one of their friendly matches.

Prior to his spell with Gillingham, he had spent two years at Swindon. He returns in the hope of winning himself a new contract with a League Two club.

Speaking on the Feast of Football podcast recently, Williams said: “I want to play as high as I can for as long as I can but it's so important to find the right manager, the right style of football and have a nice dressing room.

"I had that last year [at Gillingham] to be fair. I'll just stay patient and try to stay calm because it can be an uncertain time.”
