Defender linked with Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town makes decision after leaving Rangers

Kyle McClelland is being tipped to remain in Scotland after leaving Rangers. The 20-year-old is a free agent and has been linked with a host of clubs south of the border.

West Ham, Sheffield United, Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City were all credited with interest in the central defender, but numerous media outlets are now reporting that he is set to join Hibernian.

The Easter Road club are close to tying up a deal to bring him to Hibs, with new manager Lee Johnson said to be a factor behind his decision.

He has represented Northern Ireland at under 17, 19, and 21 level and prior to his loan spell at Falkirk in 2021-22 played a key role in the Gers under-18 league-winning side

McClelland has impressed for Rangers B but turned down the offer of a new deal. Gers are allowing him to leave without a compensation fee but will insert a sell-on clause with his next club.

This alerted a number of sides, with the Blades and Terriers said to be among those who registered their interest.

However, if latest reports are correct, he looks set to have made his decision and will stay in Scotland.
