Death of the Queen sparks SPFL and UEFA talks over postponing Champions League and domestic games

The SPFL fixture card and clubs are set to be impacted following the sad passing of The Queen as UEFA prepare plans for games involving British sides.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully at Balmoral aged 96 after concerns had earlier been raised over her health. On Thursday afternoon Buckingham Palace issued a rare statement to say the Queen was 'under medical supervision' at her castle in Scotland after doctors became concerned for her health. Her family travelled to Balmoral to be by her side before the passing was confirmed.

With all of Britain preparing for a period of mourning, Record Sport understands UEFA are considering plans involving English Premier League sides and Scottish Premiership clubs following The Queen's death. Rangers and Celtic are set to be involved in Champions League action with Gio van Bronckhorst's men welcoming Napoli while the Hoops face Shaktar Donesk. Hearts will also compete in the Europa Conference League group stage.

The Jambos were in action when the news was announced by Buckingham Palace. The players took part in a minute's silence before the second half kicked off.

As it stands SPFL fixtures will go ahead this weekend. However, plans are in place to postponed Scottish Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two games once funeral arrangements are announced.
