Death of man in Salford no longer suspicious as murder suspect released

The death of a man in Salford is no longer being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.

A murder investigation was launched after the man died following a 'disturbance' at a property on Seedley Road on Friday afternoon (May 5). The man was found with serious injuries at first, but sadly died in hospital.

Officers arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death. Police said yesterday he had been released pending further enquiries.

In an update issued today, the force said the man's death is no longer being treated as suspicious following a Home Office post-mortem. Enquiries into the circumstances of his death are continuing and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Detective Chief Inspector Liz Hopkinson from GMP Major Incident Team said: "Following extensive enquiries, we can now confirm that the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and the 52-year-old man who was initially arrested has been released pending further enquiries. Our enquiries are ongoing as we continue to investigate the full circumstances of this incident."

Following the incident on Friday, police flooded the street as forensic officers carried out investigations. Neighbours on the estate - described as 'quiet' by multiple residents - were left shocked at the scenes unfolding before them, as children played on the street against a backdrop of police tape.

Police described the incident as 'isolated' with 'no wider threat to the community'.
