Dean Hoyle confirms chief exec decision in update on Huddersfield Town takeover

Dean Hoyle has issued an update over his ongoing takeover of Huddersfield Town and confirmed that he is to stay on as chief executive longer term.

25% owner Hoyle sold the other 75% of the club to Phil Hodgkinson in summer 2019 and took a back seat on Town’s running, but resumed the day-to-day running and financial responsibility for the club in November after several of Hodgkinson’s unrelated businesses went into administration.

It was later announced that Hoyle was in talks over becoming 100% owner of Huddersfield Town once again by purchasing Hodgkinson’s shares, which are held in the name of PURE Sports Consultancy Limited – a legally separate entity from the Hodgkinson-run companies that went into administration that was not itself affected.

On Tuesday morning Hoyle wrote on the Huddersfield Town club website: “I’ll begin on the transfer of shares from PURE Sports Consultancy, which is still an ongoing process. It’s fair to say that there is more red tape involved than we first envisaged, but the most important factor is that there is still a strong desire from both Phil Hodgkinson and I to complete the process.

“I hope I will have progress to share with you over the next few months. It doesn’t change anything on a day-to-day basis, however – I will continue to fund the club as we move forward.

“Given we are now at the business-end of the season, and with the share transfer still ongoing, I’ve made the decision that it is best for me to continue as chief executive. I have a fantastic team around me, and I don’t believe that bringing a newcomer into the club at this stage would add anything to the mix. I am at the club daily; I know Huddersfield Town as well as anyone and we are in a good place.”
