De Vries gives Mahindra Racing first Formula E win since 2021 with Monaco triumph

LONDON: Nyck de Vries claimed victory at the first Monaco E-Prix of the weekend on Saturday, securing Mahindra Racing’s first Formula E win since 2021 and the team’s first victory of the Gen3 era.

The Dutch driver delivered a controlled performance on the streets of Monte Carlo after starting near the front of the grid following a strong qualifying session.

De Vries progressed to the qualifying duels after posting the second-fastest time in his group and advanced to the final, where he narrowly lost pole position to Dan Ticktum.

In the race, de Vries stayed in contention before taking the lead after the pit-stop phase, overtaking António Félix da Costa on Lap 20.

He then held off pressure from Mitch Evans in the closing stages to secure victory despite a late Full Course Yellow interruption.

The win marks Mahindra Racing’s first triumph since the 2021 London E-Prix and provides a major boost in the Formula E championship standings.

De Vries said winning in Monaco made the result particularly special because the principality is his home.

“To do that together with Mahindra, and to give them the reward they deserve is just incredible,” he said.

Team-mate Edoardo Mortara endured a more difficult race weekend after a qualifying mechanical problem left him starting 19th on the grid.

Mortara recovered through the field and briefly moved into the top 10 before suffering a puncture late in the race, dropping him back to 17th at the finish.

Mahindra Racing team principal Frederic Bertrand described the victory as a major moment for the team, adding that he had received messages from supporters in India celebrating the result.
