De Bruyne, Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes: Midfielders with most PL goal involvements
Where does Kevin De Bruyne rank among the Premier League’s all-time great midfielders?
Manchester City’s Belgian star produced another magnificent individual performance in a 4-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.
The 30-year-old, who joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015, scored two goals and provided an assist for Riyad Mahrez in the rout.
De Bruyne, who also had a brief spell with Chelsea earlier in his career, brought his tally to 132 Premier League goal involvements during his career so far (51 goals and 81 assists).
Only eight players in history have provided more assists than De Bruyne, who has now set up more Premier League goals than David Beckham.
In the aftermath of Sunday’s match at the Etihad Stadium, Sky Sports displayed an interesting graphic showing where De Bruyne currently sits on the list of midfielders with the most Premier League goal involvements since the league was formed in 1992.
De Bruyne now finds himself eighth on the list, just behind the likes of James Milner, Beckham, David Silva and Cesc Fabregas.
Occupying the top three spots, however, are the trio who are continuously compared against one another: Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Paul Scholes.
