Davis, Garcia, Haney, Kambosos, Lomachenko: Ring Magazine's top 10 lightweights ranked

Ryan Garcia can cement his place in the top five of the Ring Magazine’s lightweight rankings with a win over Emmanuel Tagoe this weekend.

Garcia, 24, will take on Tagoe on Saturday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

It will be Garcia’s first fight since taking a break after beating Luke Campbell in seven rounds last January.

His promoter Oscar De La Hoya has suggested that Garcia could face either Devin Haney or George Kambosos Jr in late 2022.

De La Hoya, who founded Golden Boy Promotions in 2002 with fellow boxing legend Bernard Hopkins, said: “The vision is to become world champion this year.

“That’s the bottom line. Like you have Kambosos fighting Haney, which I believe was confirmed. That’s going to be a great fight.

“And so, we’re going to look at the winner very carefully, and see what happens.”

The unbeaten American will hope to stay on course for a possible blockbuster showdown with either Haney or Kambosos who meet at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on June 5.

Both of those men are in The Ring’s top ten, which just goes to show he isn’t afraid to fight anyone.

Here GiveMeSport goes through the entire top ten from top to bottom.

Kambosos, 28, sits atop the pile after becoming the new unified world champion after dethroning Teofimo Lopez in November 2021.

Lopez is still somehow in second place, despite Vasyl Lomachenko‘s dominant win over Richard Commey last time out.

The respective rankings have Lopez ahead of Lomachenko, owing to the former’s victory over the latter.

That’s despite Garcia calling Lomachenko the best lightweight in the world in recognition of his career achievements.

Following Lomachenko in the rankings is WBC world titleholder Haney, who faces Kambosos in a unification clash in June.
