Davids hopes Swallows, Arrows come hungry for top 8 against Maritzburg's relegation rivals

Relegation-embattled Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids hopes Golden Arrows and Swallows FC will put up the requisite professionalism to ensure their last games of the season are played within the spirit of the game.

Chasing a top-eight finish, Arrows and Swallows are away and at home, respectively, to Chippa United and Marumo Gallants, with the latter two sides occupying 16th and 15th on the DStv Premiership log.

Should Gallants and Chippa avoid defeat, Maritzburg will be automatically relegated on goal difference.

Unlike Maritzburg, who unwillingly played and drew their last game of the season on Tuesday against Mamelodi Sundowns to move to 14th on the log, Gallants and Chippa have the benefit of knowing how things stand come Saturday kick-off.

Maritzburg did submit a protest to the match commissioner after their final fixture of the season against Sundowns was moved to Tuesday as the latter's CAF Champions League commitments clashed with the PSL's final matchday on Saturday.

The league champions host Morocco's Wydad Casablanca in the second leg of the semi-final at Loftus with the aggregate at 0-0.

Davids didn't go into the boardroom issues, but said he carried a sense of unease based on what transpired in the last round of the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Polokwane City earned promotion to the DStv Premiership through a 4-0 routing of Pretoria Callies, who had little gain from the match, while Cape Town Spurs, who were leading at the start of the final round, were held to a 1-1 draw by the University of Pretoria and were condemned to the promotion/relegation playoffs.
