David Moyes sends Erik ten Hag a Sir Alex Ferguson warning amid Manchester United links

David Moyes has sent a warning to Ajax boss Erik ten Hag, highlighting the problems he faced when he took over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

The Dutchman is close to becoming the next permanent manager at Old Trafford, with the Manchester Evening News revealing recently that Ajax expect him to make the switch to the Premier League. Ten Hag has been among the frontrunners to become the permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, along with Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Moyes was tasked with replacing Ferguson at United back in 2013. However, he struggled to cope with the pressure that comes with being the face of the 20-time English top-flight champions. With Ten Hag on the verge of taking over, Moyes has sent the Ajax boss a warning.

He told the High Performance podcast: "Strangely enough, everybody's said 'maybe change' but if there's anything I'd have wanted to do it wouldn't be to change what I did with Sir Alex. Interesting because I have a couple of people I speak to, a top, top manager said, 'you have to take your own team', someone else said to me, 'no, you have to keep what's there' so it's really subjective when you get the decision-making.

"My idea was to follow on what Sir Alex done, obviously I wouldn't be the same, he was a legend in how he worked, but I hoped I wouldn't change too much. Maybe, in hindsight, I had to change quickly but I think everyone has seen it's going to take a bit of time to get it back to those levels again."
