Gary Neville sends Erik ten Hag advice about Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola rivalry

Incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag must focus on the task at hand and worry about Manchester City and Liverpool in the short-term, according to Gary Neville.

United have endured a tough season, failing to build on their run to the Europa League final and second-placed finish in the Premier League last year. Ten Hag will become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's permanent successor as manager, and a squad rebuild looms under the former Ajax manager.

And Neville believe that's exactly what is needed, telling Ten Hag to focus on a long-term rebuild at Old Trafford.

"From Erik ten Hag's point of view he comes to a huge club that gives manager's great support, the management always give the manager great support and the players and it's an exciting club," Neville said on his own Sky Sports podcast.

"It's a club and a project — I don't like using the word project — about a football club but this has become a project now for someone to get Manchester United back to the top. "That's going to take some time because Jurgen Klopp has signed a contract today (Thursday) and that is big news for Liverpool because there were rumours two or three years ago that this will maybe be his last two seasons.

"Same with Pep Guardiola, you were thinking... but I think they've recognised they're at great clubs and to be fair, they're not going to get any better at this moment in time.

"So I think from that point of view, he's going to have two rampant teams, two world-class managers already set with foundations in place.
