David Moyes red card: Clearer footage of West Ham manager kicking ball at ball boy

David Moyes was sent off in extraordinary circumstances as West Ham lost to Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-final.

West Ham lost 1-0 in Germany after having Aaron Creswell dismissed after just 19 minutes. Seven minutes later, the Hammers trailed their German opponents 3-1 on aggregate after Ansgar Knauff gave the home side the lead on the night.

From that moment onwards, West Ham faced an uphill challenge. To their credit, they went out fighting but just couldn’t find a way through to give themselves hope.

And as the minutes ticked on, frustrations started to get the better of them.

And Moyes demonstrated those frustrations as he reacted badly to a ball boy not giving the ball back as quickly as he would have liked.

The young ball boy dropped the ball towards the pitch – rather than throw it – and Moyes retaliated by kicking it back in his direction.

He was deservedly shown a red card by the referee, Jesus Gil Manzano.

Now, new footage has emerged of the incident that earned Moyes a red card, clearly showing his intentions of kicking the ball at the boy.

After the match, Moyes did apologise for his actions but didn’t appear to be too sorry.

“I have to apologise for kicking the ball,” Moyes said. “The ball boy left it short nicely on the volley for me. I apologise for it.

“It didn’t hit him, I think I bent it past him.”
