David Moyes issues warning about 'difficulty' next Manchester United manager will face

Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has warned those in the frame to become the club's next permanent manager of the "difficulty" that they will face at Old Trafford.

Moyes, now in charge of West Ham United, replaced Sir Alex Ferguson as United manager in 2013 following the latter's retirement. Despite signing a six-year contract at the club, the former Everton boss was sacked inside just 10 months following a disappointing first season in charge.

Highly experienced and successful coaches Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho followed Moyes in embracing the Old Trafford managerial hot seat and they too became unstuck, highlighting how terrific a job Ferguson did during his 26-year spell in charge. United, of course, are currently on the hunt for their next permanent manager after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in November.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, who was interviewed for the position earlier this week, and Paris Saint-Germain chief Mauricio Pochettino are the current frontrunners to land the post. They have both been heavily linked with the job since Solskjaer's exit and it is expected to between the pair of them when United make their final decision.

However, Moyes, reflecting on his time in charge at United, has outlined how difficult it is for any manager to live up to the expectation levels at Old Trafford. He has also explained why it is important for the club to rediscover the rhythm they had under Ferguson.
