David Moyes could form deadly West Ham duo in £17m swoop for "perfect" 25 y/o brute - opinion

West Ham are keen on adding more defenders to their squad following the sale of Frenchman Issa Diop to Fulham and the frustrating ankle injury suffered by new signing Nayef Aguerd in the pre-season friendly against Rangers.

This leaves Moyes light in terms of defensive options heading into their second Premier League match of the season against Nottingham Forest, with Kurt Zouma the only senior centre-back available against Manchester City.

There are options out there that the manager is pursuing, with the Scot reportedly interested in Manchester United defender Eric Bailly, although it could be a move for PSG defender Thilo Kehrer that is one that delights the West Ham faithful.

A tweet from Florian Plettenburg, a reporter at Sky Germany said that West Ham made an offer of between €10-12m (£8.5m-£10.2m) for the German defender, although PSG expects a fee of €20m (£17m) for any potential deal to be completed.

With West Ham already splashing the cash on Gianluca Scamacca (£35.5m) and Nayef Aguerd (£30m), therefore another £17m shouldn’t be a problem, and it is with Aguerd that the PSG player could form a deadly duo with.

Despite Aguerd’s injury, he will slot straight back into the West Ham backline when he is back fit, with Kehrer also a player capable of jumping straight into the first team.

The German is a much more viable option compared to Zouma at the heart of the defence. He made 4.2 ball recoveries per match in the league last season compared to 4 for Zouma whilst also winning 1.8 ground duels compared to Zouma’s 0.8 and conceding 1.1 goals per match (1.3 for Zouma).

These statistics show that Kehrer is a better option at the heart of the defence going forward for West Ham if a move materialises of course.
