David Moyes admits West Ham sack could be coming and he would've walked out of Newcastle mauling

David Moyes admits he could be asked after West Ham were battered 5-1 at home by Newcastle.

Doubles from Callum Wilson and Joelinston along with Alexander Isak’s strike meant Kurt Zouma’s effort before half time meant little as Eddie Howe’s men took another step towards qualifying for the Champions League. But Moyes is clinging to his job by a thread with the hammers only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

The East London club face Fulham next before a Europa Conference League quarter-final first leg against Gent, then it’s league leaders Arsenal before the second. A trip to Bournemouth after European duty now looks massive before hosting Liverpool, but there’s doubt whether Moyes will still be in post by the time that comes around. Progression to the last four of the Conference League may help his cause, but Premier League points are the priority and Moyes accepts that their position may be too precarious for him to survive, despite having the board’s backing.

“I’ve got no doubt they are behind me,” he said. “I’m confident in the way they work and what they think, but if you’re a manager and you lose badly like I did tonight, you’re always in jeopardy and I understand that.”

Hammers fans were heading for the exits long before full-time as their team gifted Newcastle goals. Moyes didn’t blame them though, and admits he would likely have made a swift departure himself had he paid to watch.

“I might have walked out tonight as well,” he said. “But sometimes when things aren’t going so well you need everyone behind you. That’s when you stand up and be a true supporter. But I have no qualms with them leaving with a result like that.”
