David McGoldrick on the verge of Chris Wilder reunion at Middlesbrough

David McGoldrick is closing in on a move to Championship rivals Middlesbrough, according to reports. The Sun claims the former Blades striker, who is currently a free agent after his deal at Bramall Lane expired, is set for a reunion with his former boss Chris Wilder.

It was the former Blades boss who signed the Republic of Ireland international back in 2018 and was part of the Sheffield United side that won promotion to the Premier League. The 34-year-old scored 30 times in 136 appearances for the Blades but was released by Paul Heckingbottom's side at the end of last season.

Boro have a track record of signing players in the twilight stages of their career, having signed Lee Peltier and Sol Bamba on a short term deal last season. While McGoldrick's signing is yet to be confirmed, the Boro boss is a big fan of the forward.

The Blades are yet to make any foray into the transfer market.
