David Martindale offers Ange Postecoglou a Celtic exit route as Livingston boss jokes 'I'll buy your ticket'

David Martindale was on board when he heard Ally McCoist joking that he would drive Ange Postecoglou to Leeds United himself.

The Livingston gaffer would go a step further and help pay for a flight for the Hoops gaffer as his departure might make his life easier when coming up against the champions. It’s a similar story when facing the other half of the Old Firm. Martindale knows exactly what to expect from Rangers this weekend. It’s just another thing actually stopping it.

He has found it hard going against Celtic of late and he reckons the Light Blues are a different animal these days under Michael Beale. The Ibrox side are undefeated since Steven Gerrard’s former lieutenant returned to the club in November – even if there has been the odd turbulent moment. Rangers managed to eventually see off Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup on Sunday while Martindale’s high-flying Livinghston side came down to earth with a bump in their shock defeat to Inverness.

The Lions will look to take off again when Rangers drop into town this weekend. Martindale said: “We kind of know how Rangers will play but I kind of know how Ange is going to play as well – I still can’t stop him! I actually put his CV into Leeds! I saw Ally McCoist saying he would drive him down but I called him and said I’ll half him for a business class air ticket!

“It doesn’t make your job any easier. Knowing and stopping are different things altogether. Rangers have a bit of confidence, a bit of momentum back in the building. Michael is slowly but surely changing their identity. Most of the players now understand what he wants.

“There’s a difference to their style, everyone can see it. It’s not too dissimilar to when Mick was with Steven Gerrard, if I’m honest.
