David Haye's 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' blunder won't be forgotten

David Haye was once upon a time trolled on social media after asking for the audience’s help on a £500 question in a celebrity special episode of ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?’

The legendary boxer is a former world champion in two weight classes, so it’s evident that he can handle pressure, however, the cracks began to show when he appeared on the iconic quiz show.

Host of the popular TV programme Jeremy Clarkson presented Haye with the £500 question – which are known to be the easier ones, but this one stumped the boxer, who ended up asking the audience for assistance.

Clarkson asked: “Which of these words is also the name of a glass used to drink champagne?”

The options for Haye were; Guitar, Bassoon, Cello and Flute.

Haye said that a Cello sounded like a musical instrument, comically not knowing that all four options are musical instruments – yet champagne glasses are known as ‘flutes.’

He then joked: “It’s one of those ones that’s so obvious, it’s not obvious. I’ll ask the audience, they seem really intelligent bunch that haven’t been punched in the head their whole life.”

Unsurprisingly, 96% of the audience voted for option D: Flute, which convinced Haye that it was the correct answer, confirming it with Clarkson and it being deemed correct.

While those in the studio were able to laugh off the exchange, fans on social media were in awe that Haye didn’t know the answer initially.

However, credit where it’s due, The Hayemaker is renowned for being an incredible boxer and will be remembered as one of Britain’s finest.
