David Goodwillie hit with Clyde stadium ban as North Lanarkshire Council take firm stance over Raith loan

David Goodwillie has been BANNED from playing for Clyde at Broadwood Stadium after his loan move from Raith Rovers.

The League One club are set to welcome back their former captain on loan, who left Broadwood in January in a controversial deadline day transfer.

Goodwillie was judged by the civil court in 2017 to have raped a woman, but signed for Clyde later that same year.

The 32-year-old's move to Raith sparked mass outrage and the Kirkcaldy club stated the striker would never play for the club.

Now North Lanarkshire Council, who lease Broadwood Stadium to The Bully Wee, say the skipper will not be allowed in the ground.

They also say they will not continue their lease with Danny Lennon 's side when it expires at the end of next season.

A North Lanarkshire Council statement read: "The council can confirm that it has written to Clyde FC this afternoon.

"We have exercised our rights under the terms of our contract with Clyde FC for their use of Broadwood Stadium, in particular the clause which entitles the council to refuse entry to the stadium to any individual on the grounds of undesirable behaviour.

"We have informed the club that David Goodwillie must not be permitted access to the stadium, for any purpose, with immediate effect.

"Should Mr Goodwillie enter the stadium, we will consider the contract to have been breached and we will take immediate steps to terminate it.

"In addition, we have informed Clyde FC that the council intends not to renew the lease with the club when the contract for the use of Broadwood Stadium expires in May 2023.

"The council utterly condemns all and any violence towards, or abuse of, women. We offer a range of services to support women who experience abuse, through Rape Crisis
