David de Gea feared Man United collapse vs Brighton as team-mates repeated mistakes

They may have picked up a much-needed win on Tuesday, but David de Gea was still not too happy with his Manchester United team-mates against Brighton.

United ended their winless run following the international break as they beat the Seagulls 2-0 at Old Trafford to give their top-four hopes a vital boost.

It wasn’t quite plain sailing for the hosts though, with the game still in the balance heading into stoppage time after Cristiano Ronaldo’s opener.

United missed chances to extend their lead, as they had been in draws with Southampton and Burnley, while Brighton also spurned opportunities to draw themselves level despite Lewis Dunk’s sending-off before the hour mark.

It wasn’t until deep into stoppage time that the Reds finally killed the game off, with Bruno Fernandes scoring in the 97th minute to confirm United’s first win in three games.

De Gea though was left frustrated by his team-mates’ wastefulness as a familiar problem reared its head once again.

“I was there saying ‘come on, we have to kill the game,’ because, in the Premier League, you never know. Even with 10 players, they can score,” De Gea told MUTV.

“So it was too late the goal, but at least we scored the second goal. We should have scored much earlier, we had a couple of good chances and then you suffer when you don’t score the goal. You don’t kill the game, you suffer.

“They are a good team, they know how to play, but this is football. We win the game and we are happy.

“To be honest, I think we had the control of the game in the second half. The first half wasn’t the best, they had a couple of good chances but then we reacted very well in the second half.
