David Beckham picks his best Manchester United goal after Gary Neville reminder

David Beckham chose one of his most iconic Manchester United strikes as the best goal of his career – although he needed reminding of it first by Gary Neville.

Beckham’s career was, of course, littered with iconic moments, from goals at the World Cup with England to some of his famous free-kicks at Old Trafford. Throughout his time in football, there were more than a few memorable strikes.

Perhaps the goal that first brought him to the attention of the masses though was his spectacular effort for United against Wimbledon in 1996. Having picked up the ball on the halfway line at Selhurst Park, Beckham spotted the hosts’ goalkeeper Neil Sullivan off his line and expertly lobbed it over his head and into the back of the net.

It’s the goal that arguably announced a young Beckham onto the world stage, and showed the immense talent he had with the ball that he would exhibit on a regular basis. Despite that, the man himself somehow managed to forget about it when asked by Gary Neville for his best goal.

Instead, the former England captain went for perhaps his finest moment with the Three Lions. “Goal against Greece,” Beckham told The Overlap.

The former midfielder was of course referring to his iconic last-minute free-kick – rather appropriately scored at Old Trafford – which sent England to the 2002 World Cup. Former United team-mate Neville though questioned his old friend on his choice.

“Not the halfway line one?” Neville asked. “Actually I forgot about that one. Yeah, that one!” Beckham replied.
