David Beckham opens up on Manchester United takeover speculation amid Sheikh Jassim links

David Beckham insists there has been 'no discussion' regarding a potential role for him at Manchester United should Sheikh Jassim complete his takeover of the club.

Recent reports have suggested that Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim would offer Beckham an 'ambassadorial role' at his boyhood club, should he complete his buyout from the Glazer family. The former midfielder is said to be one of several United icons on a list to be offered such posts.

Beckham was an ambassador for 2022 World Cup in Qatar and has links with the state via that previous role. But regarding his return to United, the 48-year-old says no talks have taken place.

“At the moment there’s been no discussion of that, but everybody knows that I’m a Manchester United fan and I’ve been very vocal about the situation at United and that's been happening for a number of years,” Beckham told American news channel CNBC [via The Daily Express]. “I grew up at Manchester United from a very young age and there was a lot of stability: same manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, and same owners.

“Man United will always be Man United, they will always be one of the biggest clubs in the world. Now we need to get back to that for the fans, the players, the coaching staff and the manager because at the moment there's not stability. We need to get the talk back on the field, rather than off it.
