David Beckham breaks silence with classy message after New Year Honours snub

David Beckham has taken to social media to reflect on what he describes as an "unforgettable" year, omitting any reference to being overlooked for a knighthood once more.

The former England captain was absent from the New Year Honours list, which saw ex-England boss Gareth Southgate receive a knighthood. This snub comes despite it being over seven years since the infamous leak of emails in 2017, where Beckham reportedly called the honours committee "unappreciative c***s" while claiming he "didn't care about being knighted".

Now 49, Beckham, who holds an OBE, has alleged that some of the leaked emails were tampered with. However, the controversy seems to have cast a long shadow over his prospects of earning the title of Sir.

In a recent Instagram post, Beckham chose not to dwell on this setback, instead sharing a series of family photographs featuring his wife Victoria and their children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. The post also included a poignant image of Beckham with Sven Goran Eriksson, his former England manager who sadly died of cancer in 2024.

Beckham's message read: "Happy New Year from myself, my wife and my amazing kids... Thank you for [an] unforgettable year and I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2025. Love David x."
