Dave Cormack helps Aberdeen fans smash Gothenburg display target as he sets Pittodrie return recovery goal

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has helped a supporters group smash their fundraising target ahead of the club's much-anticipated 40th anniversary of their Gothenburg glory.

And the USA-based businessman confirmed he's upping his recovery following his open heart surgery. Cormack recently appointed former Motherwell supreme Alan Burrows as chief executive to oversee the day to day operations at Pittodrie, with finding a successor for axed boss Jim Goodwin high on his agenda. But it appears Cormack will be making a return to the UK for the May 11 festivities which include a special gala dinner, a council presentation, and a homecoming fixture for the team, which will fall after the Scottish Premiership split.

Alongside a link for the Go Fund Me page set up by the fan group "Ultras Aberdeen", Cormack tweeted: "Planning to make it home after recovery to take in the long weekend of Gothenburg 40th Anniversary celebrations. Looking forward to seeing the great display from the Ultra’s. Stand Free!"

And it didn't stop there with eagle-eyed Aberdeen fans spotting Cormack had generously donated one thousand pounds to the cause while Burrows can also be seen putting in a hefty contribution as they prepare to commemorate their famous European Cup Winners' Cup win in Sweden over Real Madrid back in 1983.

A first wrote: "Wow, unbelievable donation this is going to be some display! Look forward to having you back Dave."

Another followed up by tweeting: "Glad you're on the mend Dave. Great gesture by yourself & Alan."

And a third continued the praise with the fundraiser sitting at near six thousand pounds. They said: "Great to hear you on the road to recovery, you can't miss this weekend."
