Dave Bassett wave, Dean Henderson and Jack Lester instruction - Sheffield United moments missed

Sheffield United welcomed Nottingham Forest to Bramall Lane yesterday for the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final. It was played in front of a second successive sell-out crowd as fans backed their side in numbers and created a fantastic atmosphere.

However, it was the visitors who have taken the advantage into the second meeting on Tuesday evening courtesy of a 2-1 win. It was a cracking game for the neutral to enjoy and there was plenty going on away from the action.

Here are the Sheffield United moments you may have missed.

The players walked out to a red and white display from supporters in the John Street stand as the club reinforced its 'United until the end' message. Paul Heckingbottom had called for the fans to get their early and 'understand their role' in creating a charged atmosphere and to get behind the team.

And they did just that. It was the best home atmosphere of the season. Supporters were in early to take advantage of the offers put on by the club ahead of kick-off and they responded to the call to arms. There had been fears there may be some empty seats but it was another capacity crowd and the United faithful were in superb voice and really backed the team right from the off.

Those supporters in the John Street stand arrived to find either a red or white rolled up piece of card waiting for them. They were required to hold it up and create the colourful image and for it to be the first thing the players could see.

But what fans will not know is the lengths the club went to on Friday to make that happen. Staff from a number of departments were joined by players from the academy who all chipped in and gave their time to roll up more than 8,000 individual pieces of card.
