Daunting claim suggests Ferrari haven't even shown full pace so far this season

There is a claim emerging that Ferrari have not yet shown the full potential of their power unit this season, which is surely set to be daunting for the rest of the F1 field.

The Scuderia have been brilliant so far this season with them in contention for victory at both races and winning the first Grand Prix of the year at Bahrain.

They came close in Saudi Arabia, too, and so it is clear that they have put together quite the bit of kit for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to drive this campaign.

However, it is being claimed by Giuliano Duchessa for Formu1a.uno that the Prancing Horse is currently being reined in a little and, in fact, the team has not yet fully shown what their power unit is capable of at full chat.

“The engineers say it quietly, but Ferrari is sure to be the engine manufacturer that has recovered the most power compared to last season, despite the introduction of E10 fuels,” the report from Duchessa states.

“It seems [Mattia] Binotto’s team is then also playing strategy, not wanting to show the true power of their unit this early in the season.”

What that means for the rest of the campaign and for the field remains to be seen, of course, but it does seem as though Ferrari are strong and have a lot more to go before they’re out of ideas and at maximum performance.

That high-ceiling from an already strong starting point bodes well, and they’ll be looking to keep the challenge going this weekend in Australia.
