The Reds striker recently made his first two appearances for the club following his £85million transfer from Benfica. Nunez played half an hour in the 4-0 defeat to Manchester United, and then a similar length of time in the 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

He is yet to score his first goal during the pre-season tour, but has had opportunities to find the back of the net. In the win over Palace, Nunez was denied by goalkeeper Vicente Guaita with a close-range strike.

Nunez will now return to Merseyside along with the rest of the Liverpool squad. Hours after the win over Palace, the Uruguay international posted a short message on Twitter.

In his tweet, Nunez wrote: “resiliencia,” which translates to “resilience” in English, followed by the ‘shushing face’ emoji.

The tweet from Nunez comes amid recent criticism of the striker from sections of rival fans. Jurgen Klopp leapt to the defence of his summer signing in a press conference before the win over Palace.
