Darts star Gerwyn Price has charity boxing debut postponed

A hand injury to darts star Gerwyn Price has led to the postponement of the former world champion’s charity boxing debut next month.

Throughout the course of his time in the sport of darts, Gerwyn Price has been recognised as something of a pantomime villain by fans across the country. Whether it be due to his exaggerated celebrations or his general demeanour with opponents, Price knows and accepts that he’s going to be booed upon entering the stage for big tournaments.

Alas, that hasn’t stopped him from becoming one of the best players of his generation with a World Championship and three Grand Slam titles to his name.

Unfortunately for the 37-year-old, he picked up an injury to his throwing hand earlier this month that threatened to rule him out of action for a period of time. Despite the pain, he’s pushed through and even managed to win a Players Championship in Germany last weekend.

He’s going to carry on playing as best as he can but during an interview with Sky Sports, he confirmed the severity of the problem.

“I was still in discomfort with my hand so I went back to the hospital and the X-ray showed a small fracture,” said Price. “The usual course of action would be to be put in plaster for four weeks, but with the Premier League and other events, that’s not something I wanted.

“I’ll be wearing the splint now other than when I’m playing darts, and making sure that I rest the hand enough when I’m not to allow it to heal
