Dartford coach Martin Tyler believes club’s summer recruits are raising their game and says patchy away form is a distraction from team’s home momentum

Dartford coach Martin Tyler believes their summer signings are starting to show their worth.

It’s been an inconsistent season for the Darts with a number of new faces trying to find their feet at Princes Park.

But Tuesday night’s 4-2 win over Weston was their third successive victory on home soil and Tyler believes they’re heading in the right direction.

“Players are here for a reason, coaches are here for a reason,” reflected Tyler.

“Some players have come from a higher level, and some aspire to a higher level, so there is a connection that makes recruitment a challenge as there’s a lot of players that want to play in the first team.

“We’ve got to get those decisions right and sometimes you have to wait for the players to show you what they can do.

“We think our new players from the summer are beginning to show why we signed them, having individually and collectively at times made you wonder if we’d made the right decisions.

“I think we’ve made more right ones than wrong ones, I’m not saying we haven’t made any wrong ones. I’m pleased for the players.

“Football is about winning and now we’ve got a free week, we can enjoy that win. But it doesn’t last for long as you look at the problems.

“We were 4-1 up and we still managed to concede in injury time and have a player sent off. That’s not as professional as we want it.”

Dartford have played more games than any other side in National League South but, after losing at Hemel Hempstead last weekend, they recovered from a shaky opening half-hour against Weston to climb to ninth spot, two points outside the play-off places.

Boss Alan Dowson has come in for plenty of stick but he guided the Darts to second spot last season and knows his way around the division better than most.
