Darren Moore hoping to end Sheffield Wednesday's Gillingham hoodoo ahead of crucial promotion run-in

Sheffield Wednesday will look to end their Gillingham hoodoo this weekend, as they travel to Priestfield Stadium, having only won one of their last nine meetings against the Gills. In a torrid run that dates back to 2000, the Owls last victory against Saturday's opponents came 21 years, when both Efan Ekoku and Michele Di Piedi netted in a 2-1 win at Hillsborough.

Since then, Wednesday have failed to win any of their last six meetings with Gillingham, have most recently been held to a 1-1 draw here in South Yorkshire, as Florian Kamberi rescued a point for Darren Moore's side with just 15 minutes remaining. Having also been held by the same scoreline in their last League One outing with Accrington Stanley earlier this week, the Owls are still firmly in the hunt for a top six finish this season, sitting just one point outside of the play-off places at present.

This season does present the first time the two team's have been in the same league since the 2002/03 season, where Wednesday were relegated from the then Nationwide First Division. The Owls finished 22nd and were eventually condemned to the fate following the sacking of manager Terry Yorath in April 2003.

With the Gills this time the side bidding to remain in the division however, Wednesday boss Moore insists Saturday's clash presents a perfect chance for his side to roll their sleeves up and go again.

''We have a point tonight ourselves,'' began the 47-year-old following Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Hillsborough. "It might feel like we have lost the game but we didn’t – we have another point and we go again against Gillingham on Saturday."
