Darkness descends as Lowry's second round suspended at Phoenix Open

Shane Lowry managed only the first hole of his rain-delayed second round at the Phoenix Open before play was suspended due to darkness at the TPC Scottsdale Stadium.

The Offaly native began the day in a tie for third after an opening round 67, but inclement weather meant a lengthy delay in play before players were able to resume.

FULL LEADERBOARD

Lowry had a 5.55pm (local time) tee off time and a 173-yard approach shot allowed him make par at first before play was suspended a little over 10 minutes later with 18 players yet to complete their second round.

The 36-year-old is currently in a tie for 28th on four-under par and will resume his second round at 2.30pm Irish time.

A second round 69 saw Seamus Power sit two shots further back on two-under par. The Waterford player was among those that were able to complete their round, and after a sticky patch on the front nine that included back-to-back bogeys starting on the seventh, the back nine provided more scoring opportunities.

The 36-year-old closed with three birdies in the final six holes to improve on his opening round 71.

Power is 10 shots off the clubhouse lead where Canada's Nick Taylor has matched the TPC Scottsdale Stadium course record and head into the weekend tied for the lead with America's Andrew Novak.

Taylor finished his first round with an 11-under 60 on Friday, thanks to weather delays that saw the first round spill over into the tournament's second day.

Returning to the course later on Friday to start his second round, Taylor began on shaky ground before pulling it together with two birdies on the back nine to card a one-under 70.

That puts him equal with Novak at the top of the leaderboard on 12-under.
