Danny Murphy warns Erik ten hag over ‘strange’ Man Utd signing which could spell disaster

Danny Murphy has been left baffled behind Manchester United’s transfer move for Denmark schemer Christian Eriksen.

United have made contact with the 30-year-old’s representatives with Erik ten Hag keen on landing Eriksen alongside Frenkie de Jong.

Eriksen is on a free transfer after his short-term deal at Brentford expired. The Bees remain in the running for the midfielder, who helped them survive in the Premier League last season.

There is also rival interest from West Ham, Everton, Leicester and Ajax. But United’s race could well be run.

The Guardian claim that Eriksen has turned down a move north to join up with Ten Hag. 

Instead they suggest he will remain in the capital and extend his stay with Brentford or move to Spurs. But Tottenham have stepped away from the talk with The Times reporting they have not made contact for two weeks.

While Football.london claim Spurs officials have distanced themselves from the Eriksen speculation.

Where ever Eriksen lands, former Liverpool man Murphy has labelled Man Utd’s pursuit “strange”.

Murphy told talkSPORT: “I don’t see it.

“If Erik ten Hag thinks he’s going to play Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes in the same team in a midfield with only one holding player, they’ll end up finishing worse off than this season.

“Is he going to bring him in as a back-up for Fernandes, play as a 10? Or is he going to play him as a central midfielder? If you bring in Frenkie de Jong and Eriksen in the midfield, where’s the tenacity, where the tough tackling physical presence?

“There isn’t any. That’s a strange one for United, why they want Eriksen, I don’t get that. They’ve got enough creative players.

“So United think they are going to get someone from Brentford and been one of Tottenham’s best
