Danny Murphy says Rangers don't have the quality to trouble Liverpool and only have a 'small chance' at Ibrox

Danny Murphy says Rangers don’t possess the quality to trouble Liverpool in their Champions League Battle of Britain return showdown and says the Ibrox crowd will only give Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side a “small chance” of victory.

The former Anfield midfielder won five major honours during seven years with the Merseyside giants and believes his old club will be too strong for Rangers. Jurgen Klopp’s men won 2-0 in the first Group A clash but were more dominant than the scoreline suggested.

Van Bronckhorst has vowed to be more positive in his approach against the English Premier League side with home advantage and Murphy reckons the crowd will be a factor. But despite Liverpool low on confidence, trailing league leaders Manchester City by 14 points ahead of their meeting this weekend and mounting injury issues the ex-England international can only see one outcome.

Murphy told talkSPORT: “Rangers have got a small chance but not a great chance. The fans will make a difference, Rangers have been good at home for a couple of years in Europe. But the quality, irrelevant of Liverpool's form, is just too high against that opposition. Rangers don't have enough quality to give Liverpool problems.”
