Danny Cowley makes Portsmouth away form admission ahead of Sheffield Wednesday League One opener

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley has said his side must improve their away form this season.

Pompey start their League One campaign on the road against division favourites Sheffield Wednesday, who happen to boast the best home record last year.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Hillsborough, Cowley said the Blues dropped valuable points in games last season which they should have won or drawn.

Portsmouth will wear their new third kit against the Owls on Saturday, where one of their nine new signings could make their debut in the 3pm kick-off. And Cowley praised the recruitment drive which saw them bring Dane Scarlett, Josh Griffiths, Josh Oluwayemi, Zak Swanson, Michael Morrison, Joe Rafferty, Marlon Park, Colby Bishop and Joe Pigott all to Fratton Park.

“We’re in a better place than we were 12 months ago and I like the group that we have here now," Cowley added.

“There are a lot of good characters and I feel that spirit and togetherness will grow as the season
