Danny Cowley delivers update on key Portsmouth duo following club’s defeat to Plymouth

Portsmouth head coach Danny Cowley has revealed that Michael Jacobs and Marcus Harness are both set to be available for selection this weekend after missing last night’s clash with Plymouth Argyle.

Jacobs was not ready to be included in Pompey’s match-day squad for yesterday’s fixture despite the fact that he returned to training last week following a period on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Harness meanwhile has been forced to watch on in recent games after picking up a straight red card in the club’s clash with Accrington Stanley.

In the absence of the 26-year-old, Portsmouth have experienced a mixed run of form in League One.

After sealing a 3-1 victory over Crewe Alexandra, Pompey delivered a resilient display in their meeting with Ipswich Town as they sealed a point at Portman Road.

Portsmouth would have been hoping to boost their chances of gatecrashing the play-off picture yesterday by defeating Plymouth.

However, Argyle managed to secure a 1-0 victory in-front of their own supporters thanks to a second-half strike from Ryan Hardie.

Following this defeat, Cowley shared an update on Jacobs and Harness.

“We need them.”

Making reference to Jacobs, Cowley added: “He just wasn’t ready and that’s the truth.

“We wish he was, we’d love him to be, but he wasn’t.”

The Verdict

This is an encouraging update for Portsmouth as Jacobs and Harness are both capable of setting the third-tier alight with their displays.

Jacobs has provided seven direct goal contributions in 15 appearances at this level during the current campaign and will be determined to add to this tally on Saturday.
