Daniel Ricciardo reveals Zak Brown talks as he discusses speculation over McLaren future

Daniel Ricciardo has revealed he has had a chat with Zak Brown recently as speculation over his future continues.

The Australian has found his time at McLaren proving to be a tough one so far with the Italian Grand Prix win last season the only real highlight for him to look back on fondly so far.

It’s been a bit of a mystery as to why a driver of his talent just cannot gel with the McLaren car, too, and in recent weeks we have seen speculation grow that he might well be moved on from the team to allow for someone else to have a shot.

His contract runs until the end of 2023, though, and so the suggestion has been there might be a ‘mechanism’ needing to be triggered that would release the Aussie early from his contract.

However, speaking earlier today ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, Ricciardo revealed he remains fully committed to staying with McLaren for next season at the very least, after speaking with Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren Racing:

“We’ve spoken, we’ve had a catch-up, but nothing needed to be elaborated on.

“The clarity is there for us moving forward, my contract is clear with the team for next year, I’m fully committed, I’ve certainly voiced that.

“Obviously now, it’s [about performing] on track, and showing these moments, these races I know I’m capable of, and I do truly believe I have the full support of the team, and we want to do it together.”
