Daniel Podence a Celtic transfer target as champions 'follow situation' of £12m-rated Wolves wing ace

Celtic are keeping tabs on Wolves’ £12 million-rated winger Daniel Podence, according to a report.

The 27-year-old was left out of the squad for Gary O’Neil’s side’s defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford after he also stayed at home for the Midlands club’s pre-season trip to his native Portugal when Julen Lopetegui was in charge.

Podence moved to Molineux for almost £17m from Olympiacos three years ago and his contract will expire next summer. The Daily Mail report that Celtic are “among the club’s following the situation” of the winger who has one cap for Portugal who could be the big name replacement for Jota. Podence came through the Sporting Lisbon academy before his move to Greece earned him regular minutes and a crack at England's top table.

Podence has bagged 16 goals in 105 appearances for all competitions for Wolves and appeared in 32 of their 38 English Premier League games last season, scoring six goals.

He was at the centre of some controversy, though, when he was accused of SPITTING on Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson but while the Portuguese was charged by The FA the allegation was found to be "not proven".
