Daniel Kelly Celtic to Millwall switch complete as teen pens long-term contract in English Championship

Daniel Kelly has completed a move to English Championship side Millwall after leaving his boyhood heroes Celtic.

The East Kilbride kid, who has been with the Hoops for several years after he first caught the eye playing above his age group for EK Caledonian Thistle's 2004 team, has left Glasgow's East End after turning down a new deal with the Scottish champions.

Lanarkshire Live Sport exclusively revealed last week that the 18-year-old was set to pen a deal with the Lions after being frozen out of the Celtic first team by boss Brendan Rodgers, and that has now come to fruition after an initial pre-contract agreement for January was brought forward.

Earlier this week, the clubs agreed a deal worth almost £400,000 plus add-ons to bring Kelly south immediately and he underwent a medical in London on Tuesday. The announcement of his signing had been delayed by Celtic reportedly dragging their heels in completing the paperwork, but he has now been announced by the Lions this evening and has signed a long-term contract at The Den.

The delay with Kelly's paperwork means he will not feature in tomorrow's Championship clash away to Hull City.

"Daniel is a player that has been on the club’s radar for some time and highlighted to me upon my arrival," said Steve Gallen, The Lions' Director of Football.

"It’s been no secret that he’s attracted a lot of interest. We’ve been working on this deal all summer and we’re delighted that he sees his long-term future with Millwall.
