Daniel Alvaro backing Toulouse to avoid relegation

Toulouse forward Daniel Alvaro is backing his side to avoid relegation from Super League.

The 29-year-old made 114 appearances in the NRL before making the switch to the South of France. He has joined on a deal until the end of 2024, making the move with his family.

“I’ve been enjoying it,” Alvaro told Love Rugby League. “Toulouse is a really good club. The boys are really good and the staff are really good. Toulouse is a great city, so I’ve been loving it so far.

“I’ve got a good mate here in Joseph Paulo who I speak to and an opportunity came up over here. It was really good and we sort of jumped at the chance. And it happened really quick; it was sorted in just less than a week.”

The Italy international made his Super League debut in the club’s 20-14 home victory over Wakefield, Toulouse’s second win of the season.

Sylvain Houles’ side currently sit at the bottom of the Super League table, but sit just one win behind Trinity. And Alvaro is backing his side to do the business in the second half of the season to retain their spot in the top division.

Asked if he thinks his side can avoid relegation, Alvaro told Love Rugby League: “Definitely. I’ve been really impressed by how hard the boys compete. We’re a good side and we’re not far off I don’t think. A lot of our results have been really close. Hopefully this second half of the season we can get a little but further and do pretty well.

“That’s the big one (avoiding relegation). I just want to play well and enjoy my footy and help the team as much as I can.”
