Dane Paterson returns as Western Province announce contracted squad

Proteas quick Dane Paterson will once again turn out in the colours of Western Province as he was named in their contracted squad for the 2022/2023 season on Tuesday.

Paterson, who turned out for the Warriors last season, has played two Tests, four ODIs and eight T20s for the Proteas and brings a wealth of County cricket experience with him.

Western Province coach Salieg Nackerdien was extremely happy to have Paterson back in the fold.

"I've been with Pato for the last 12 years or so, starting at Western Province with him, and I know what he can offer the team. He's been part of winning teams over the past 10 years as well," said Nackerdien.

Paterson is currently plying his trade over in the County circuit with Nottinghamshire and has 121 first-class matches and 441 wickets at an average of 22.84 behind his name.

He has also played 93 List A matches and 98 T20 matches. He will bring experience to a bowling unit which includes Beuran Hendricks, Nandre Burger and Tshepo Moreki, as well as all-rounders Wayne Parnell, George Linde, Mihlali Mpongwana, Kyle Simmonds and Aviwe Mgijima.

Promising all-rounder Ethan Cunningham is part of the contracted squad too, as he earns his first professional contract.

He is part of a bright future that Nackerdien sees for Western Province.

"Ethan is a young, up-and-coming all-rounder. He played in the ICC U19 World Cup for South Africa earlier this year. He's a homegrown talent from the Cape, and we want to see that he grows his game and becomes an asset for WP in the future," Nackerdien stated.

Province have also signed former Warriors opening batsman Eddie Moore.

The experienced 29-year-old has scored over 7,000 first-class runs in 102 matches.

"Eddie will be a great asset to our batting
